I, Pauline, and many of my students, are very sensitive to fragrance, and will suffer allergic reactions to any scented products around us. Classes are a Scent Free Zone. Please don’t wear perfume and or any products that contain fragrance or essential oils the day of class. Examples of scented products are: lotions, deodorants, hair gel, hair spray, laundry detergent, dryer sheets and more. It's important to check your products as people often aren't aware of their own scent. Learn more about Fragrance Free and how to make the change.   If you have any questions about this, please contact me.

NOTE: My Sammamish YMCA classes are on hold due to Coronavirus.
A classic Nia class follows a seven cycle program:
1. Setting the focus: We focus on one aspect of the practice, it is woven artfully throughout the practice.
2. Stepping in: We enter and step into the experience, leaving all distractions and concerns behind.
3. Warming up: This is where we prepare our body to move, warming up the joints.
4. Getting moving: We move at a higher energetic pace, conditioning our body and cardiovascular system
5. Cooling down: Still dancing and upright we use movements that cool down our body.
6. Floor play: Using the floor, we play and condition our body using gravity, space, and the art of moving on the floor to become strong, stretched, defined and balanced.
7. Stepping out: We seal the experience by consciously stepping out.

The technique is founded on 52 basic moves for the base, the core, and the upper extremities, that are used to create the body-friendly choreography of the class. The nine movement forms, of Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jazz, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Yoga, inspire the class with soft and slow dynamics, as well as the powerful energy of Tae Kwon Do and the playfulness of Dance. Nia choreography blends these dynamics to create a class that offers ample movement in a state of dynamic ease. Everyone can do Nia because the movements are so adaptable to varying skill and fitness levels. Nia is generally done in bare feet. Shoes are also fine.

The first principle of the Nia Technique is the Joy of Movement. We believe movement can be pleasurable to the body, and when we move towards pleasure we move towards healing. There are lots of smiles and happy people in Nia classes. Some even say Nia has changed their lives!

In the meantime Jag is offering his online Human Movement program. Visit here for details.

Seattle's First Nia teacher, JAG is a First Degree Black Belt who has taught in almost every state in the USA as well as in Italy and Ireland. JAG is passionate about health and fitness and learning about our bodies. His classes are fun, athletic and informative.  You will be challenged physically and mentally and leave inspired, refreshed and invigorated. His classes are appropriate for all fitness levels as he teaches with the philosophy that each body has its own version of every movement.

In addition to Nia, JAG has studied ballet, jazz and modern dance, massage, personal training, improv and formal acting, aikido, yoga, Yogafit and Yoga Tune-Up, the Feldenkrais and Alexander techniques, tai chi, step aerobics, Nia Five Stages and Nia FreeDance. He is also a certified personal trainer and created a format he calls Energy Flow that combines Nia Five Stages and FloorPlay with calisthentics, yoga and HIIT (high intensity interval training). Although his approach is almost disarmingly casual, he brings a great deal of education, experience and integrity into all the classes he teaches.

Drop-In to class for $15 any time.

$130 for a 10-class card --($13/class)

Tuesday & Thursday mornings

10-11a pacific11a-12p mountain, 12-1p central, 1-2p eastern

This series is presented by Northwest Dance Network (NPO),

a regional dance resource for decades.

Cost: Pay-what-you-can donation to NW Dance Network

Go here: Northwest Dance Website to register.

Choose which session(s) and tell us who will be attending.

You can register for multiple sessions or just one at a time.

You can add the workshop and the Zoom link to your calendar

from the Zoom confirmation screen.

Here are some steps to take if you are new to zoom:

1. If you haven't already done so, you will want to first download Zoom 5.0.4

on your computer, tablet, or phone. You can do this anytime before the class.

2. Click "Zoom Client for Meetings" when you get into the Zoom website.

Close any open programs (other than Zoom!) on your computer or phone for best internet connections and sound.

3. Once registered you will receive an email with the zoom link to our class. Class will begin at 10! "Door opens" at 9:55am. If you are new to zoom, come a bit early. This will allow any glitches to be worked out before you dance.

4.When you enter the "meeting room", you will be greeted by a cohost from NWD and me. You'll want to check the audio & video settings on your device. Cohost will mute everyone but me; enjoy class with or without your video on.

5.It's always okay to enter late or leave early if necessary.
